The apple of Franklin's eye (or is it heart)
Modified Applefest due to COVID-19 kicked off with the traditional apple pancake breakfast. The Applefest committee were busy getting all the fixings packaged up and delivered for his year's take out only breakfast at St. Patrick church. 250 pre-registered for the breakfast that also included sausage and applesauce.
The modified event continues Saturday with the apple pie sale at the chamber office on Liberty Street from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or while supplies last. They only have around 100 pies and they are being sold for $10. Chamber director Jodi Baker Lewis is encouraging folks interested in picking up a pie to stroll around downtown to take advantage of the many shops offering Applefest deals despite the event being cancelled.
The annual Franklin YMCA 5k race has changed its format to be virtual. Participants can run or walk the course over the next month to avoid the usual large crowd that gathers at the start and finish of the race. More information about the race can be found on the Facebook page Franklin YMCA-Keeping the Tradition.
The chamber is also releasing its "Virtual Showcase" of local businesses on its YouTube and Facebook pages beginning Saturday.
