"It was a real honor to ring this bell tonight," Elijah Boyd said after performing that task at First Presbyterian Church in Meadville Sunday night. He seemed to dance around the church entrance as he pulled the long rope attached to bell in the tower above.
The church and many others across the region took part in the statewide Bells Across Pennsylvania Day by ringing their bells for three minutes.
"...since the days of the American Revolution, bells have served as an instrument for expressing communal gratitude, camaraderie and resolve," wrotre Mayor Doug Baker of Franklin in a proclamation. Similar proclamations were made by mayors from across the state as they joined in this show of solidarity and appreciation to those still working in essential businesses, healthcare and first responders during the state's stay at home orders and the COVID-19 pandemic..
