It's been a long standing tradition that, if you're a wrestler in northwest Pennsylvania, the road to a state championship in Hershy goes through Sharon.
And if you love wrestling, but don't want to travel to the Giant Center in chocolate town, then for the rough price of a Big Mac you can see the best of the best this area will send in hopes of a state championship gold medal. This starts Friday night at Sharon High school with the North West regionals kicking off. |

Eight wrestlers from Venango County will ttest their skills against the best the region has to offer at the North West Regional AA Tournament.
The combined Oil Citty/Cranberry squad will send six – Elijah Brosius, Connor Reszkowski, and Brayden McFetridge, who attend Oil City High School; and Devyn Fleeger, Dane Wenner, and Daniel DeLong, of Cranberry High School.
Representing the combined Rocky Grove/Franklin high schools will be Jonah Heckathor of Franklinn and Cael Dailey of Rocky Grove.

Friday evening’s action gets underway with preliminary matches.
At 106 pounds, Dailey (21-5) will face off against Andie Przybycien (20-18) of Fort LeBoeuf.
Top seed out of District 9, Brosius receives a bye in the first round. The top seed in the tournament, Louie Gill (36-1) of Hickory, is also the 2021 106 state champion,

Reszkowski (24-11) will square off against Trenton Rodgers (25-12) of Titusville in the opening round of competition in the 126 weight class. While teammate DeLong (15-14) takes on Jackson Bowers (22-16) of Fort LeBoeuf at 132, a class that includes 2021 state medalist and District 9 wrestler of the year Owen Reinsel (37-2) of Brookville.
Wenner (30-7) will match up with Hunter Savitz (31-18) of Corry Area in a tough 138 weight class that includes 2021 state medalists Connor Pierce (31-0) of Harbor Creek and Connor Saylor (36-5) of Hickory.
After placing second at the District 9 tournament, Fleeger receives a bye for the first round at regionals in the 152 bracket as does McFetridge (17-6) at 215, a bracket that includes 2021 state medalist Hayden Linkerhof (30-6) of Corry Area.
At 160, Heckathorne (23-17) will meet Coyha Brown (14-8) of Brookville to open the tournament.
The opening rounds will get underway at 5:15 p.m. Friday with the quarterfinals to follow. Action on Saturday will start at 9:15 a.m. with the consolation finals expected to start at 3:30 p.m. and the parade of champions at 5:15 p.m.
