Photographing and writing a story to help out The Titusville Herald plus covering the Oil City Franklin cross country and girls soccer games may have been a little more of a bite than I can chew tonight. So tomorrow, as I am waiting for my eyes to come back into focus after likely being dilated up in Erie, I will post more.

The Franklin girls volleyball team hosted 13 schools for their 19th annual Spiketacular tournament on Saturday. Coach Matt Jones was unable to attend due to being under the weather but was able to watch the live stream. His daughter Abby Greenlee (JV coach) and her husband Colton Greenlee (volunteer coach) had the task of coaching the team. Jones said it was a good day for the team, who got a chance to try out different lineups. They finished a strong 6-2 behind solid serving, including 14 aces by Sydni Hoodler and six aces a piece from Abby Boland and Sydney May. They entered the tournament playoffs with a bye into the quarter-finals. There they defeated Karns City before losing a tough semi-final match to Lakeview, who they split sets with earlier in the day. Cranberry went undefeated in pool play but lost in the semi-finals to Keystone, the eventual overall winner who went 6-2 in pool play before sweping through the playoffs. Rocky Grove got some valuable experience but only managed to win two games on the day, losing to Oil City in the playoffs. Oil City was even on the day, going 4-4 before beating Rocky Grove in the first round of the playoffs and losing to Keystone in the quarters.
A report from Maplewood as they cruised through Eisenhower 25-7, 25-3 and 25-9. Maplewood had 24 aces.
Sadie Thomas had 9 kills and 8 aces, Bailey Varndell had 20 assists and 6 aces. Elizabeth Hunter had7 kills. McKenna Crawford had 12 digs and 4 aces. I've been fortunate to share work with some progressive forward thinking news gatherers in northwest Pennsylvania. Folks that get we are stronger together than we are competing.
That is why I am thrilled that Eight & 322 partners with folks like The Titusville Herald to cover our area. Today I was honored to photograph the Titusville rocket soccer team visiting Oil City. I was only able to stay a short time, because I planned to photograph volleyball that day as well. Titusville's Lance Enright(22) scored the only goal the contest in the first half. Thursday's game between Oil City and Corry the Oiler's offensive coordinator Dave Skinner had a difficult job. Each down he was saddled with "Do we hand Ethen Knox the ball up the middle? To the left? To the right?" Not an envious position. Of course this is joking, but with the Oiler offensive line and a back like Knox it's easy to see why Dan York's offensive coordinator calls # 2 to get the ball over and over again. Putting the ball in his hands often equates with TD. The Oil City football team has now scored 113 points in just two games. Knox's 12 offensive touchdowns are responsible for 72 of them. The junior running back scored a school-record seven touchdowns – six coming in the first half – as the Oilers routed Corry, 55-6 Thursday. Corry got the ball to start the game but was shut down quickly by the Oil City defense, which forced a punt. Then Oil City only needed just two Knox runs to move the ball 60 yards for the first score. The 2-point attempt failed. On the ensuing kickoff, Corry bobbled the ball and ended up downed at the 1, but with its no-huddle offense, Corry moved the ball 99 yards to to tie the game at 6-6. At this point it was looking as though this would be quite the battle. Then Knox took over, finding the end zone again to give Oil City the lead for good. His 81-yard run put the Oilers up 22-6. A Knox 43-yard run set Oil City up at the 11. A few plays later, Knox found the end zone for the fourth time. Corry’s next drive was stopped by Knox on defense. The junior stepped in front of pass and returned it 50 yards to the Corry 21. Three Knox runs later and he was in the end zone for his fifth TD. Knox had another touchdown run called back by penalty. It didn’t matter. Oil City kept feeding him the ball and he capped off the drive with an 8-yard scoring run for a 42-6 halftime lead. With the mercy clock running, Knox scored his final TD of the game – his seventh – and the Oilers capped the scoring on a 3-yard run by Carl Chelton. Next week Oil City will hit the road to take on North East. This story first appeared in cooperation with our friends at ExploreVenango.
