Their purple-esque uniforms are indeed the color of royalty. at least they were tonight as they came in and .... well just beat up on the poor Berries. They were up by 30 points in a blink of an eye. It wasn't that the berries couldn't score, they struggled to even try to score as the pesky defense seemed to be right in the way of each pass that they then snatched away. The lay ups on the other end were happening so fast the scorekeeper struggled to keep up.
But games have to played out to the end and the Cranberry team showed dignity by playing hard down to the wire despite Karns City putting the ball through the hoop about 24 more times than they did.
When the Cranberry starters were pulled in the hopeless last minutes, the small crowd that was allowed to attend for senior night, applauded. This was a beautiful moment. These kids deserved the recognition of their dedication and they got it.
When it's your kid you find a different way to shape the conversation.
As a long-time journalist this stuff matters. This wasn't just a game where one team cruised over another team, this was a game that folks got to play and that those who play hard are noticed. Effort begets respect and these Berries, though clearly out classed on the court tonight will never be outclassed in life as they gave their best effort against a very good opponent and never lost their cool.
I love my job!
