Going into the seventh-inning Tuesday afternoon Trinity Edge looked as though she was feeling pretty good.

She had been facing one of the best teams in the region and was holding them to one run. With a 2-1 lead she faced the first batter and looked like she was on the verge of striking her out when Morgan Bercis lifted one into right field that wasn't able to be tracked down. After chasing the ball to the fence, Bercis ended up on third.

Down one run with no outs and the lead off batter on third, it was pretty obvious that small ball was going to be a factor. A nice bunt was put down and Bercis confused the situation with a big lead off third. No play was made to first or third.

Runners on the corners, still no outs.

Same strategy, small ball, at worse give up an out at best cause more confusion and score. Another bunt and almost identical result. Suddenly the bases were jacked with no outs and Jamestown's whole bench came to life. But the Knights still held a lead with one of the top pitchers in softball.

So nothing was a gimme still. Could Edge strike her way out of this jam - she has done it before.

The next batter up went down on strikes giving the Knights hope. But, there is a reason this game was to potentially decide a region title.Jamestown is a good hitting squad and proved it as the the next batter drilled one passed shortstop Sydni Hoobler, who had returned after an extended illness.

Not only did the Muskies score the tying run, they scored the go ahead run and still had two runners on base and only one out.

At this point the momentum had shifted and the Knights seemed discombobulated.

Unusual misplaying of fly balls and chaotic throwing errors led to a disastrous inning where they ended up giving up six runes heading into their final frame down 7-2.

But they weren't ready to quit, Hoobler got on and scored. The Knights had two runners on base with a chance at a rally, but just came up short. Jamestown is a very good team and games like this are great preparation for the post season where the Knights shine.

They have reached the district finals the last two years winning one. Last year they went a couple games deep into the playoffs. Playoffs begin next week and we'll see if they can put together another successful run.
