“We’re right there in all the games, we have nothing to be ashamed of or hang our heads on, our region is superior, it’s one of the toughest I’ve ever been in. Everyone comes to play every day,” coach Roy Schweitzer said Monday after they got their first win in over two weeks. “It’s not that we’ve really been struggling, we’ve been facing some really good pitching and good pitching beats good hitting everyday of the week.” The Rockets, after beating Franklin, are 6-4 in the region. They have a tough couple of weeks where they are going to have to play well. They are currently in second place behind Hickory and will face Slippery Rock, Oil City, Sharon and Conneaut. Schweitzer said Hickory is on fire right now though they just lost to Oil City who Titusville was scheduled to play Thursday after the paper’s weekly deadline. “We have a battle on our hands, but we’re goin to come and give it everything we got,” Schweitzer said. His goal is to sweep the remaining games and finish 10-4 in the region and go into the playoffs in a positive direction. They began that positive attitude with a big win on the road in Franklin. “We couldn’t have written it much better, going out and getting three runs right off the bat in the first inning,” Schweitzer said. “Kim was shooting BB’s, throwing strikes and we had quick innings. It was a complete win by everybody.” Some aggressive running and hustle ended up being all the solid pitching needed to win the game 5-2. “We work on hustling, it doesn’t matter if it's a pop up or a little dribble, we run as hard as we can, we’re always trying to get that extra base,” Schweiter added. “That’s what it took tonight, there were a couple passed balls and those weren’t easy to get in, Mason (Titus) got one in, Ashton (Burliegh) got one in , those weren’t gimme’s, they got good breaks from third base and they were able to grab those runs and they were huge.” Burleigh and Kasen Neely came in the sixth and seventh inning in relief and helped Mong get the win. |
Burleigh got into a little trouble with runners on with no outs, but got a fielder’s choice, a strong strikeout and a great catch on a pop up by Drew Wheeling who made the over the shoulder grab on some uneven ground in foul territory to end the threat.
