When I was laid off on March 25, 2020 after 23 years as a small community photojournalist, I decided wallowing in self pity wasn't an option.
I love what I do, so why stop doing it.
So on Friday March 27, 2020 I published a small community story and announced I would be working on something independently.
Eight & 322 was born.
This is malleable concept that I expect to grow and change before it settles into a format, and even then I don't ever want it to settle.
I love my former employers, The Meadville Tribune (1997-2015) and The Derrick and News-Herald (2015-2020). and hope to continue building relationships with them. We're in this together as we try to help our community's stay informed.
I love writing about and photographing community life. I try to find a way to show a glimpse into who we are as a people. Not all stories are pretty, some might be gritty or even sad, but I know they, in some way, reflect the life of this place and its people.
I will do my best to be honest and factual in the presentation of the stories. Journalism should always seek transparency, diversity, versatility and an honest approach.
I got into the work because I like doing it, but more importantly, because I think it is extremely important.
I just want to keep telling stories.
Supporters and advertisers
Eight & 322 wants desperately to stay 100% local in our advertising. We prefer quiet dialogues and sharing of information over the flooding of advertising click bait that comes from google ads.
We are not judging, other media outlets out there are far more financially secure because they understand the power of money that is available to Tham and it allows them to do more and more.
For us, however, we have a philosophy based on the way we want to consume our news and stories. Advertising is absolutely a necessity barring a generous philanthropist (mom would do it if she had the cash).
So we have developed and hope to stay true to this concept, each ad on our page is from one of our neighbor businesses or organizations. Each ad represents someone we know or is affected in some way by.

Each advertiser/sponsor is a supporter of the type of community focus we emphasize in our coverage.
We have a long way to grow and as we do we are hoping that we continue to provide valuable exposure for our supporters so they keep going on this journey with us. We think the stories we tell about our neighbors are worth their weight in gold in helping the community take better care of itself and we plan so much more.
