I took my eyes out dancing. Their partner - the light. Franklin's summer concert series in Bandstand Park is off and running strong in the golden light of Thursday evenings. They kicked off a week ago with the long-standing staple, the Silver Cornet Band. Followed up in week two with the Brandon Rae Band. The Silver Cornets will be back this Thursday. During these shows, as a photographer, it gets exciting when the blinding setting sun peaks into the bandstand smacking the trumpet section between the eyes.. Eyes water and squint, but nary a note is missed. This light calls for a photographer to make artistic decisions. With the camera's inability to even-out light(without special tricks) the exposures all over the place. To not have washed out highlights you have to respect the shadows and let them be dramatic. This becomes fun, because, even though we know what the affects are going to be, it is still a surprise when you look at the back of the camera and adjust further or get sure excited that you're making an unexpected image. So as the band sees nothing - I dance, which is best not seen anyway, and my eyes dance, which I hope produces something worth seeing. Here are some of those photos and more not so blinding light photos from week one. Below is the schedule. |
