You get a sense that folks were just itching to get out. Well over 100 people attended the concert Thursday night as Billy and the Neptunes kicked-off the summer "Music on the Square" program.Oil City Main Street director Kathy Bailey said it was one of their largest crowds ever.
Fred Oakman and the Flood will perform on July 9. The Porter/Huber Jazz will perform July 22. More acts and dates to follow.
Personal note: These shows are put on by the Oil City Main Street Program and they are free to the public. In past years weather has really hampered the event, but even on nice nights it seems that few turned out. Perhaps this pandemic has provided something positive as this crowd was perhaps their biggest yet. This idea has room to grow and the setting is actually wonderful. Many people complained that this park was built after the buildings were torn down about six years ago, but this park is a signature for the city and more events like this should be promoted and enjoyed by the people living here. There are few gems in this world that are given freely, this is one of them.
