Friends and family attended the small ceremony that featured a speech from OC alum and honor society member Matt Laverde, who told a few tales of what the core values of the society gave him in his life's journey.
To be eligible for the society a student must maintain an 85 average or higher GPA, volunteer in school or community. demonstrate leadership skills and demonstrate high standards of character and maintain a clean disciplinary record.
Oil City principal Scott Stahl told those in attendance that these 26 individuals do just that.
A funny conversation with superintendent Lynda Weller before the ceremony caught me trying extract my foot from my mouth. She quickly put me in the right. I said "I really wanted to come and cover the smart kids." And she reminded me that athletes can be smart too.
Touche' Lynda.
So I had fun making photos of the honorees coming into the cafeteria for this ceremony and sticking around a little while as family and friends proudly posed for photos with the new society members.
