Something is brewing at the Barrow-CivicTheatre in Franklin that has a Titusville man pouring over the details the pot (or should I say plot) trying to solve a murder. Jim Nash, who has been involved in local theater for a number of years is playing Belgian inspector Hercule Poirot in the percolating Agatha Christie whodunnit “Black Coffee” at the Barrow-Civic’s Little Theater opening this Friday. The plot centers around the death of accomplished physicist Sir Claud Armory who seems to have split the atom and create one of the most deadly weapons known to humankind - the atom bomb. But during a little dinner party he fears his plans was stolen out of his safe. As Armory drinks black coffee he claimed to be quite bitter, he tells the guests he has locked them in until authorities arrive. Soon after drinking the bitter coffee, he was found dead in his chair. Moments before a box of poisons and old school medicines were taken out and describe how each would kill someone. But is that what killed the scientist, or was it something more mysterious? Everyone in the cast is a suspect and are advised to not leave the premises as Poirot and fellow Inspector Japp pour over the clues. Nash said he loves playing in front of local audiences. “Community theater is a unique and exciting experience, because you get to work with people who have been on stage for many years and you get to work with people who are getting involved on stage or behind the scenes for the very first time,” he said. “And if you are lucky, you meet many new friends along the way.” Nash is joined by fellow Titusvillian Josh Devlin who plays Dr. Carelli, one of Poirot’s suspects. | This story was written for The Titusville Herald and up-dated for Eight & 322.
