Was given the opportunity to help out my friends at The Meadville Tribune again this weekend. A lot of fun. But I forgot how hard the Meadville gym floor is. My sore butt aside, it was good to witness this long running tradition and document the finals. Rocky Grove girls entered into Thursday night's game with a winning 6-3 record. They knew they were headed into a stretch of tough games, but they were enjoying a much improved season over last year's winless campaign. Facing Cambridge Springs was a tough test for the Orioles - they were pushed around all night as they battled in a Region 2 matchup. In the end, the Orioles low shooting percentage and ball handling mistakes were their Achilles heel as they fell 48-17 to the Blue Devils. The homestanding Rocky Grove team managed only six points on 1 and 17 shooting in the first half while giving up 25. The second went a little bit better for the Orioles, who were playing without starter forward Zoey Cresswell for the second game in a row. They managed 11 points in the second half, but Cambridge added an additional 23 to their despite being is foul trouble. In the end Rocky Grove was 5 for 31 for field goals and 7 for 16 from the foul line. Senior Rae Montgomery lead Rocky Grove’s offense with six points and defensively with four blocks. Emily Rice had four steals and four points. Ainsley Anderson had three points, Gracie Reyburn and Paige Cresswell each had two. Lydia Kennedy had seven rebounds on the night. The Orioles are 6-4 on the season. They are scheduled to host Maplewood, one of the top teams in District 10, on Monday.
