Franklin continues to roll, wins region by dominating Slippery Rock

Franklin just rolls and rolls.

What appeared to be an off shooting night at times for Easton Fulmer, he still knocked down over 20 points. The rest of the Knights did their usual scoring, stealing, rebounding like the other team didn't exist and

until that team got the ball - then they contested every shot and pass by the visiting Rockets.

They visit Wilmington on Friday and end the
season hosting Sharon next week.

Coach Jason Fulmer's team secured the region title and will head into districts as a team to beat.

Oil City paid tribute to their two seniors, Brittin Winters and Gianna Cavalline, Monday night before taking to the court against a surging Franklin team.

Franklin jumped out to a quick demoralizing lead against the Oilers leading 16-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Oilers battled a little closer the remaining three quarters but ended up losing by almost 30 points - 46 to 17.

Franklin is looking strong down the stretch heading towards the playoffs. They improved to 8-2 in the region with the win over the Oilers who are having a rough season with their young team.

Senior day at the Grove

Rocky Grove girls basketball recognized their two seniors Saturday afternoon prior to their game against Jamestown. The game was originally supposed to be at Jamestown, but the Muskies were nice enough to switch in order for the Orioles to celebrate their seniors. Grove Athletic director Curt Bindas praised the school and players for their selfless act.

The Muskies proved to be a little better on the court winning the game 35-31 in a close battle. Abby Williams and Riley Reed were praised for their leadership during tough years where the wins have been hard to come by.

Later that evening the Rocky Grove boys also recognized their seniors and then cruised passed visiting Reynolds 56 -27. The boys are enjoying a solid season.

Of special note, boys basketball player Dustin NcMullen saved the day when the sound system cutout prior to the girls game and the playing of the National Anthem. When Bindas indicated he couldn't get the anthem to play, several people pointed to McMullen in the crowd and he obliged.

The Spa comes out on top of battle of the unbeaten

In our attempt to create positive partnerships and help each other out, I was asked by our good friends at The Titusville Herald to help out photographing an important battle of the unbeaten Wednesday when Maplewood girls hosted defending district champion Cambridge Springs.

It was quite a battle with both squads struggling at times to find the net at the bottom of the basketball hoop. Free throw practice will also most certainly be a focus of the coaches as they wind closer to the playoffs where those freebies are incredibly important.

Check out The Titusville Herald for the story and just check out this gem of a small town paper in general.

Just a notch or two better

Franklin continues to show just how good they are or can be. In Tuesday night's contest Hickory was able to match and even end the first half with a little extra to take the lead.

During half-time coach Jason Fulmer must've given one hell of a speech and shared a plan to put super pressure on the visiting Hornets, because Franklin jumped out to a double digit lead and stayed there. The team is well rounded but Easton Fulmer had another monster 30-plus point game. And if you have to check your phone during a Knights' game, a good time to do so is when Fulmer has a free-throw, because it is just gonna go in.

Cranberry wins second half and the match

If you showed up a few moments late Tuesday night, you would see the Franklin Knight's commanding quite a dominant performance over their host Cranberry.

A couple of pins and a couple of forfeits and it was 24-0.

But apparently then the match hit Cranberry's wheelhouse and through forfeits, a few pins and a decision, the matched ended 39-24.

 Franklin failed to score again.

The state of wrestling is down compared to even 10 years ago. Many teams fail to find enough wrestlers to have each weight class filled, so most matches now last around an hour. Pins and forfeits are much more common than six-minute pure strenuous "giving it your all" matchups.

Not sure if wrestling is on its decline towards being ranked with the dinosaurs or Greek mythology lessons, or if it is just in a lull waiting for the next great inspiration to rejuvenate the sport?

Either way, the quality of matches just ain't what they used to be, though there are still some very fine wrestlers getting out there under the harsh center of the mat lighting and trying to improve their skills enough to be ready for the postseason and hopefully a trip to Hershey.

Rocky Grove's Isaac Clayton, seen in this Eight & 322 file photo, scored his 1000th carreer point Tuesday night at home against hapless Commodore Perry during a 68-28 romp.

Clayton will be forever immortalized on the Oriole's wall with this accomplishment.

Well done Isaac!
