In order to participate, students in grades 10 to 12 must audition with a jazz etude in November for selection and placement in one of four different jazz bands. Ives was chosen to play the bass trombone in a band under the direction of Carl Miller of Cochranton. Michael Ives represented Titusville High School at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 2 Jazz Band Festival, which was held from February 16 to 18 at Cathedral Prep High School in Erie. THS band director Kevin Vinson assisted Ives with preparing both the audition etude and the concert. Through this process, Ives was able to learn more about playing in various jazz styles and try some improvisation.

Two Titusville basketball players drew the attention of the Erie Times-News breakout players of the year - Manny Perez and Isiah Colon.
Senior Perez was second in the district in scoring, averaging 21.6 points a game. “Perez has been on the cusp of greatness the past few years and finally broke through as one of the top scorers in District 10,” the Times-News noted. Perez made 156 field goals this season, including 54 from three-point land. Junior Colon is 13th in scoring in District 10 averaging 16.8 points a game. “Colon had some big-time games this year,” the Times article said. “He could be the feature player for the Rockets next year with Manny Perez gone to graduation.” Colon knocked down 60 three-pointers in 19 games, the Times noted. The Titusville Youth Wrestling team got to hoist the trophy following The Law of the Paw tournament in Sheffield on February 11.
"This is great news for the community as well as the future and health of our wrestling program," said coach Tyler Harrison The team also competed in the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Area VI competition on Sunday at Meadville High School. The tournament featured competitors from Butler, Crawford, Lawrence, Mercer and Venango counties. Several wrestlers from the Titusville team placed in the top three and qualified for the youth state championships, which will be held on March 25 in Pittsburgh. |
