Rocket's advance to second round of District 10 AA team duals

Titusville jumped out to an early commanding lead Wednesday night in the opening round of the District 10 AA team championships against Saegertown.

The host Rockets advance to the next round with a 42-12 win.

"We wrestled a lot better than I anticipated," said Titusville head coach Joel Stearns who recorded his 100th career win.

Landon Wolfkiel, the Rockets 152-pounder kicked things off taking very little time putting Greg Kiser on his back for a pin. 

Gavin Donaldson only took a minute or so longer to put Titusville up 12-0 when he pinned Carter Stewart in the second period. 

At 172 Cameron Mong out lasted Gabe Jordan for the decision.

Kaleb Brunst and Burke Hancock also recorded decisions putting Titusville up 21-0 before Saegertown’s heavyweight Logan Corner finally stopped the bleeding with a 4-1 win over Bryce Watkins.

Two of Titusville’s top wrestlers at 107 and 114 recorded the next two pins.

Sawyer Wolfkiel went into the third period recording an 11-0 lead before pinning Caleb Goodwill. 

Then ninth-grader Isaac Roberts, fresh off his Fred Bell Championship, took just a little over a minute to defeat Porter Beebe.

Down 33-3 at this point, Saegertown’s Isaac Huya, Carter Beck and Travis Huya all ran off decisions but that would be the end of the Panther’s scoring.

Stearns said his team responded tonight citing the 127-pound match with Saegertown's top wrestler, Beck.

​"Parker wrestled his (tuckis) off. He didn't even get majored, it was a six-point match," Stearns said.

​Titusville senior Nate Stearns got a second period pin and Trenton Rodgers held on to a 7-4 decision to end the night.

"All in all they wrestled good. I was very happy the way they performed," Stearns said.

Titusville will move on to take on Fort LeBoeuf at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sharon High School.

"Fort LeBoeuf  is obviously tough, they took second in the state last year. So we'll have our hands full," Stearns admitted. "Anything can happen, you wrestle hard, you go out there and get a couple pins and who knows? Our conditioning is where it needs to be right now, I'm happy with our conditioning."
