I got a message mid-afternoon from a dear friend, Lisa Renwick, who is now the sports editor at The Meadville Tribune. She asked if I was busy in the next hour or so. A scheduling snafu left her wanting to do what great community journalists do....get someone there anyway despite the staff photographer being busy on another assignment. To cover life that is happening in our community no matter what is what she and I have chatted about for years. Lisa knows how important it is that we are there, in the flesh, covering our kids. She and I share a common commitment to our community and insuring that we document as best we can. We've been known to lament into the wee hours in the morning to each other when we felt we failed to cover something or didn't quite get it right. I was proud to help. And oddly, I was wearing my friend Jim's old Meadville Tribune shirt anyway. I had just put it on to feel connected to my past not knowing I would be called upon to make some picture's from the very same organization that employed Jim who likely wore the same shirt 20 years ago covering the same thing I was today. MASH track. This was a beautiful thought to have on a rainy afternoon. My intention for the day was to get to a Franklin softball game, but I simply ran out of time. I did go to Rocky Grove volleyball again. This squad is young and green, but they have something to build on if they choose to do so. I've enjoyed photographing them this season even though they have been getting beat by Crawford and Erie county teams. They are spunky and have some athletes. They could be a much improved squad in the next couple years if they work hard to develop more skills and strategies. |
