In March Gov. Wolf issued a statewide closure of non-essential businesses, offices, schools etc... He placed bans on large gatherings.
What a mess. It could be argued that not a one size fits all approach would've been better. Perhaps Crawford and Venango Counties could've been allowed to remain at full-speed ahead as long as they kep their numbers from spiking.
The economic realities were pretty tough all around. But here we did keep our numbers down and evidence since re-opening indicates that mitigation efforts and education on prevention did, in-fact, work here. Since opening up numbers have been steadily rising.
The Governor re-opened the state because the initial mitigation efforts began to flatten the curve and hospitals and clinics had increased their capabilities to handle more numbers.

There was great pressure to reopen from an economic stand point and the Governor wasn't exactly ignoring this, he is a businessman after all. But he and the Sec. of health Dr. Rachel Levine indicated a slow safe opening could work if people continued to exercise smart self-imposed mitigation efforts and practices.
We, of course, did not.
Through COVID fatigue and just wanting to live, we were given and inch and we took a mile. This happened all over the country. Suddenly the trending down numbers stayed stagnate for a week or two and then slowly began to rise. Areas like Venango and Crawford counties began to see numbers they watched in neighboring Mercer and Butler counties for the first few months. Now many of us know someone who has contracted the virus and even lost their life.
The Governor's most recent shutdown has brought out a slew of hate speech on-line and frustration. We are tired of this, but what is he supposed to do. It could be argued don't treat the state as a one-size fits all, but can he do this? Counties do not have border walls or check points. And where is this virus not getting out of control? Certainly not Crawford or Venango.
I admit, I don't know what to do. I do believe federal funding is essential to get us through this time and it has to be more focussed on keeping businesses alive to get to summer. We are an extremely wealthy nation and during times of war, we have had a sense of working together to keep going.
This isn't so much different than war.
I know we can come together to help each other as much as possible, but unsure if I can physically help each other right now and be safe. I know I have been careful, but healthcare workers all dressed in better PPE than I have are getting this. So perhaps the best thing to do is what we used to do in New England when a hurricane or Nor'Easter was coming through, we need to hunker down and batten down the hatches and get through this.
Calling this a hoax, or an overreaction and not giving a crap about listening to healthcare professionals or showing respect to each other by being safe is not helping at all. We're close to the end of this, but we cannot still see this number continue to rise. It needs to flatten and go down.
Our lives really do depend on it.
