National Library Week can be a time of giving to new fund

For several years, the Oil Region Library Association participated in the annual Venango County Week of Giving as a way to build up funds to keep services going at its Cooperstown, Franklin and Oil City locations. With the annual multi-organization funding drive not planned for 2022, ORLA needed a new way to raise the money.

This year, they are asking patrons and residents to give in connection with National Library Week, which runs April 3 to 9, and the newly-established Founders Fund.

"Seven years ago, ORLA was founded with a dream of uniting all three Venango County libraries to offer and preserve quality services across our region. ORLA seeks to continue enhancing cooperation, creativity and generous community spirit through our new Founders Fund," said ORLA Executive Director Dan Flaherty.

Money raised through the fund will be used to support all three libraries and the more than 150,000 items shared between the trio of locations, the more than 1,000 free educational and community programs held annually, and the continuation of places where people can research and learn about different point of views and ideas.

The goal is to raise $14,000 during National Library Week. Making the goal even more obtainable, the fund will receive matching funds for the first $6,000 raised.

"Thanks to the support of the ORLA Board, ORLA Committee members, and the Oil City and Franklin Friends groups, there are matching funds that will automatically match all donations received up to $6,000," Flaherty said.

Donations can be made in person by checks to the ORLA at any of the libraries or online at
oilregionlibraries.org/founders-fund/, which will redirect you to PayPal to complete the transaction.

"You are helping to maintain ORLA’s status as your community centers throughout our county while paving the way for future growth and development," Flaherty said.
