Registration opens next week for the Oil Creek State Park's annual one-day event that seeks to introduce women to outdoor activities. Chicks in the Sticks will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 18.
Each participant can take up to four classes, which will be taught by a highly qualified instructor. The activities will be hands-on and participants will produce an item, be introduced to a skill and get materials to take home from most classes.
This year's classes, which will be an hour and 15 minutes long, include Archery, Kayaking, Fly Casting, Plant ID, Herb Walk, Medicinal Uses of Herbs, Art of Wood Burning, Bicycle Maintenance, Fire Starting, Yoga, Hiking and Outdoor Photography.
This is a rain or shine event, so participants are encouraged to take appropriate clothing, sunscreen and bug spray. Attendees must be 18 years old or older. Lunch will be provided. Cost is $50.00 per person.
The program is a major fundraising for the Friends of Oil Creek State Park and has provided funding for educational programs, trail maintenance and construction projects in the park.
Registration opens April 18 and can be done at friendsocsp.org or be calling 814-676-6435.
