Holiday Hat Humiliation

Gus
'Twas many nights before Christmas and all through the house one creature was stirring. He was way bigger than a mouse. Gus decided to try to save all the other domestic creatures who have endured the torture of the annual Applegate holiday hat humiliation. He discovered the bag with festive headgear and destroyed at least two of the pieces.

However, Gus was too late, and the damage had already been done. The elder saint Bernard, Sherman, was one of the first to fall victim to the holiday hazing.

Sherman had been struggling with blindness and mobility issues.

We also suspected some cognitive decline as his confusion increased tenfold. I felt a little guilty for using this to my advantage when getting a couple photos. He really didn't know what was going on.

With that being said, he doesn't seem to know what is going on most days.
Nonetheless, he seemed to suffer no harm and accepted any treats that were offered to him. Despite the confusion, Sherman was still his happy-go-lucky self.

Despite Gus' best efforts, he could not avoid the inevitable.

He doesn't know the convenience and speed with which Amazon ships such posh pet headpieces.

One of the new Santa hats was stuffed.

This made Gus seem like he borrowed a hat from one of the Zem Zem Shrine members.

Sadie managed to sit still just long enough for a couple pictures before she ditched the hat.

Holiday hat professional poser Clem remained stoic as ever. His eyes were focused on the prize or treats.

Lil' Bit
However, Clem had a challenger for his title of perfect poser.
Lil' Bit, like Sherman, didn't seem to care about what was placed upon his head.

It could be because he had just woken up from one of the multitudes of cat naps he took throughout the day.

The Santa hat featured in the first photo no longer existed thanks to destruction by Gus.
Meanwhile, the red reindeer ears were out of reach and remained in play for next year's photo persecution.
While Lil' Bit was somewhat cooperative, other household felines were not feeling the festive vibes.
Sisters Buttons and Beans were not pictured this year due to the threat of violence against the photographer.

Ernie
Ernie appeared to suffer greatly during his Christmas costume session.

Wiggles
Wiggles also seemed to endure more anguish than holiday spirit.

Timus
Additionally, Timus was not at all impressed with the new cat Santa hat that was shipped to the house. He was not as thrilled as I was that the headpiece featured a matching scarf.

Kennedy
Meanwhile, I decided to take a different approach when attempting Christmas hat photos with Kennedy, the goat. I took a hat into the woods on one of our walks. In the back of my mind all I could foresee was a crazy goat running through the forest resulting in a lost Santa hat. Kennedy surprised me and impatiently posed for a couple of photos.

The Applegate critters may not enjoy dressing up in Christmas costumes as much as I enjoy their expressions after they are all dolled up. However, I foresee the tradition continuing despite their opposition.  That's just the nature of things 'round here.
