The bats had no holes in them Tuesday night

It started out like it was going to be a long night for Saegertown. St. Mary's jumped out hitting just about every pitch Saegertown's Mason Groner got near the strike zone. They put a few folks on base and scored two before Groner and Saegertown's defense settled into what they were taught to do all year, play solid fundamental ball.
Then it was Saegertown's time to bat and they lit it up. They batted around the order and scored and scored and scored. 11 first inning runs set the tone.

When St. Mary's finally returned to bat they were rusty and all the wind was taken from their sails. They were still able to get the bat on the ball. but suddenly the ball just didn't go very far or with any gusto. Saegertown's strong  fundamental defense made easy work of them.
Groner also became very efficient. He retired the sides on just six pitches in the second inning and then he tossed only three the next. Meanwhile their offense kept adding runs and at the end of four innings it was over. 15-3.
The if necessary games indeed necessary. Tonight the two squads square off again for the title and a chance to advance.

Oil City went down swinging, Saegertown advances to championship

Monday night's rematch between Oil City and Sagertown saw nearly as many runs scored as the first game a day earlier when Saegertown ten runned the Oil City squad in four innings. But this time more runs appeared on Oil City's side of the score card. In fact they led near the end of the game before Saegertown pulled ahead and lumped on a few insurance runs.
At 7-4 going into the final frame Oil City battled putting runners in scoring position and plating one before Saegertown was able to retire the side and win the game. with tying runs in scoring position a pop up needed about ten more feet into the left field grass to change the games  potential outcome.
Saegertown advances to face St. Mary's tonight at 6 p.m. up on Hasson Heights.

Oil City played host for the first round of the Section 1 tournament that finally gut underway Sunday after two days of rain delays. OC got out to a rough start with some sloppy play and inability to get a good bat on the ball most of the game and losing via the 10 run rule. They bounced back in the afternoon to take out Harborcreek and stay alive.
They will face Saegertown again tonight at 6 p.m. at Hasson Park with hopes for a better result. St. Mary's awaits the winner and will play Tuesday night for the championship.

This Oil City Little League squad lost the first game of the tournament, but didn't give up as they proceeded to eliminate everyone else in their path before reaching the final against Titusville where they had to win twice.

In an  game where players on both squads seemed to let their emotions take them over until coaches stepped in to restore calm, the Oil City squad held on for the victory.
