I met Kelly Trenga when she was a kid and today I was walking back to my car after covering a game and I heard a familiar voice say the words in the headline above. It was the Meadiville versus Cochranton game. I wasn't. But... To be honest, I wasn't sure what the game was or meant. My mind was elsewhere and I have been covering a different area these last few years. But seeing an old friend I just could not leave despite a looming deadline. So I hung out to make a few pictures and watch some solid hitting. I'm glad I did and it was fun to see the Trengas again. And now photograph her son who is probably close to the age I first photographed his mom. See more photographs at https://sayerrich.zenfolio.com/p107471597

Another catching up post with some photos from Miller-Sibley. You can hear the cheers coming from up on the hill, they roll across the valley up into the neighborhoods of Rocky Grove and down into the city of Franklin. The sounds of summer. Miller-Sibley sports complex is where it is at if you like to watch ball being played by all ages. One field is littered with wee ones and adults as they learn the basics of baseball from attempting to hit some softly lobbed ball to smacking the ball with all their might off a tee. Next to them are the adults not ready to give up on their ability to play. There are guys just out of high school to young grampas tossing a little fast pitch. Moms and grandmas moving their heads back and forth as if watching tennis to se how the kids and spouses are doing on each field.
Here are some favorites from our visits to the park. And if you haven't been there in awhile the new basketball courts, tennis and pickle ball courts are done and impressive. See more photos at https://sayerrich.zenfolio.com/p149982095 "I am so incredibly proud of these young ladies. They’ve worked so hard and it has paid off. We are headed to states for a once in a lifetime opportunity," coach Ashleigh Phillips said after the Mid-Eas/Cochranton 12 and under squad won the sectional tournament in Meadville 12-8 Friday afternoon against Punxsutawney.
Despite giving up eight runs on 11 hits, MEC pitcher Abigail Mawhinney dominated early in the contest while she and her teammates lit up Punxsy at one point threatening to invoke the ten-run mercy rule. At 10-0 in the fourth, Punxsy got a little hot at the plate and kept forcing another inning. In the bottom of the sixth their 12-5 lead dwindled to 12-8 with the bases loaded before a line drive was snagged by Mawhinney's quick glove to end the game. MEC moves on to the double elimination state tournament in Indiana Pa.
Franklin defeated Cranberry 5-4 to advance to try avenge a loss to Butler earlier in the week. More photos and information coming tomorrow.
