Franklin is hoping the third time's the charm when it comes to the PIAA basketball tournament. In their past two appearances, the Knights have fallen short in the opening round of play. In 2021, they lost 53-45 to Bishop Guilfoyle. Last year, they dropped a 65-63 heartbreaker to Ellwood City.
This year, they take their 15-game winning streak into a home contest against Shady Side Academy, the second-place 3A team in the WPIAL conference 3 and the sixth-place team out of District 7. The game is set for 5 p.m. Saturday at the Castle.
