"Hey, hey....we're not done." First year head coach Mike Feleppa hollered those words to his Cochranton Cardinal football squad after they defeated Saegertown 37-0 Friday on the road. The victory capped off a perfect season for the Cardinals who were perfect in 2020 as well, but in the opposite direction. Cochranton's program has been struggling in recent years and in 2020 they couldn't muster a single win. Enter long-time coach from Meadville, Feleppa to take over the program. With a few key changes he turned the 0-8 Cardinals into an 7-0 squad this year. "We went from defeated to undefeated," he said to his kids as they assembled for a group photos. His 7-0 Cardinals only gave up 29 points all season and amassed 4 shutouts. Can you say coach of the year? |
Jack Martinec also broke Cochranton's single season rushing record in the win. The team truly appreciates its support system of fans, cheers and the band. At the end of each game they rush to the sidelines to stand facing them with helmets held high to salute as they stand humble and proud before them. What a year. |
Below are a few more from my trip back to Saegertown High School for this match-up.
