51 | Cambridge Spings takes down five-time defending champs to capture district title | 36 |
In a game that started slow and sloppy for the Cambridge Springs Blue Devils, the inspired team showed poise and tenacity when it counted. The first half was riddled with fouls and only a couple of the players putting the ball in the hoop. Madison Yanc and Hailee Rodgers accounted for nearly all the squad's points at the break. All of the starters had multiple fouls and some key players were in serious foul trouble.
They would have to play error free against the five-time defending champ West Middlesex Big Reds to come out with a win.
And that is what they did.
Not a single Cambridge player fouled out and coach Ryan Mckissock masterfully rotated bench players in to keep his girls from fouling out while having to apply tough defense.
Neither squad looked like they wanted to win during a very low scoring third quarter.
Cambridge just shut down the Big Reds the entire second half keeping them to just nine points. Cambridge was also stellar at the foul line down the stretch to put the score out of reach.
Smart, focussed play in the second half put the District 10 hardware in the Blue Devil trophy case for history.
