The District 10 basketball playoff brackets are out and several local teams are in the mix. Top-ranked Franklin (18-4) will play Seneca (7-15) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 23, at Oil City High School to kick off their run at the 3A boys D10 championship. Oil City (16-6) comes in at the opposite end of the bracket as the number three seed, setting up for the potential of another Route 8 Rivalry game in the District 10 championship. First step towards that goal will be beating Fairview (8-14) in a 7:30 p.m. game at Meadville High School on Friday, February 23. The Franklin girls (14-6) are ranked fifth in class 2A and will meet Conneaut (15-17) for a Region 5 showdown game at 4 p.m. Saturday at Meadville High School. The Eagles were victorious in both of their earlier matchups this season, winning 43-26 and 46-35. Earlier in the day, Maplewood (19-3), who is on an eight-game winning streak, will play Eisenhower (10-11) at 1 p.m. for a quarterfinal 2A game. The Rocky Grove girls (7-15) will play in a 1A semi-final matchup against Jamestown (5-15) on Wednesday, February 28 at an undetermined time and location. The two teams played each other near the start of the season with the Orioles beating the reigning 1A champs 47-45. There are first-round byes for all the 1A boys basketball teams, so Rocky Grove (15-7) will wait until Tuesday, February 27 to meet up with Cochranton (9-12) at a time and place to be determined. The Orioles played the Cardinals earlier this season, beating them 84-66. |
