It was a war: Cards remain unbeaten, Wood was a solid football team

Wow! That was a game.

Nose to nose, smashmouth, grind out the yards and get what you can earn football. Most plays went for two or three yards and those weren't an east two or three either.

If you were a movie sound guy and needed to record pads banging and grunts for a movie about high school football, this game would've been a good one to record.

These two schools are a hop skip and jump away from each other and they came out to beat up their neighbor to prove a point. And it went to the wire with Maplewood nearly coming back in the final seconds. Sans a blocked extra point and a failed two-point conversion this game was as even as it could be. A blown punt coverage and a blown coverage in the secondary allowed Cochranton its only points..... well except for two extra point kicks through the goal posts.

Perhaps the kicker was the MVP?

Otherwise it was gritty offensive drives and grittier defense all night long as temperatures kept dropping. In the end Cochranton remains unbeaten and now heads into the district title game against Reynolds who easily took care of Eisenhower. Site and time to be determined.
