Earlier this week the Oil City softball team found itself in an unusual place - the post-season. For the first time in 20 years this young team carried their school on their shoulders into the playoffs. The downside is they drew the region champion Jamestown Muskies in the opening round. A team that beat Franklin a few days earlier. It was just too big of a mountain to climb for this up and coming team that featured one of the top pitchers in the area Sophia Garmong who is also a near .500 hitter. Though they bowed out to a team who reached the District 10 championship game after defeating Harbor Creek Thursday, the Oilers look to be building and they shouldn't go another 20 years before making the playoffs again. |
