Despite not having a lot of personal best times when they visited the dark Franklin YMCA pool Monday to face the usually tough Knights, the Titusville girls swim team came away with a 111-59 win. Editor's note: We are contracted to do a couple stories a week for the new Titusville newspaper, The Titusville News-Journal. So some of the stories we write may have a bit more Titusville news than usual. More Photos! “Great team win last night,” Rocket head coach Seth Come said. “Not a whole lot of best times, but we are getting to the part of the season where those times don’t drop as easily.” But, two of their swimmers did qualify for districts none-the-less - Sophia Sampson in the 200 freestyle and Luke Keebler in the 100 Butterfly. Titusville won first place in all the heats Franklin’s Alaina Brown wasn’t in and a couple she was. They were deeper than Franklin and took a fair number of second places as well. The boys didn’t fare as well losing to the strong Knights team 104-64. They were coming off a long weekend at the Iroquois Invitational where they finished in eighth place. Alex and Eric Reynolds swam well in the 100 yard breaststroke, but they came in second and third respectively to Nate Pfennigwerth. Alex Reynolds went on to win the 500 freestyle and Joe Herman recorded a first place in the 200 freestyle. Both squads are scheduled to swim against the tough Grove City who the boys lost to 55-115 back before Christmas. The girls will also travel for that meet. “Looking forward to that one because we usually see some fast swims in that pool,” Come said. The girls recorded a 95-66 during their last meeting at home in Titusville. Franklin travels to Slippery Rock on Thursday. The Boys team is 5-2 on the season while the girls are 2-4-1. |
