Titusville struck first in the battle against Rocky Grove in Friday night girls basketball tip-off tournament action. The Rockets scored a basket right off the bat and the scoreboard remained unchanged 2-0 for the next 90 seconds of play. Titusville managed 12 unanswered points as the Orioles, under the leadership of new head coach Brad Clayton, worked through early game struggles. The Rockets had a fairly even attack throughout the first half of the game. They lead 15 to 4 after the first quarter and 24 to 10 after the second. They flew off the launch pad to start the second half, scoring 16 unanswered points and then slowed down for the final quarter, scoring only four points. As was their trademark last season as well, the Orioles continued to play hard throughout the entire contest. They went out on a high note as Emily Rice scored off a hard-earned layup with only .03 seconds left in the game, causing the crowd to roar loudly with excitement. The Rockets took the win 46-16 and earned a spot in the championship game against Oil City at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Nest. Rocky Grove will play against Cranberry in the consolation game at 1 p.m. |
