Exemplary free-throw shooting may be one key reason the Warren girls basketball team is unbeaten in Region 5. Pretty solid defense may be another. Moving the ball around the perimeter looking for the open three or a clear dish to the inside cutter most definitely. Warren has been so solid in region play this year they have outscored their opponents 397-173 through seven contests. All of this was on display during the Dragon road route of Oil City 65-23. The last time the two teams met it was 60-19. The Oilers were stopped, stolen from and, even when they got free shots, they just always couldn't capitalize. Freshman guard Payton Liederbach led the way for the Oilers with eight points coming off the bench. Emma Stahl chipped in seven. Maddy Marczak, who had shoelace troubles all night, added six. Nicki Petro dropped in two. |
Warren (7-0) has a commanding Region 5 lead over Conneaut (5-2) and Franklin (4-3). Oil City drops to 3-4. Oil City faces downriver rivals Franklin on Thursday.
