Titusville swimmers didn't have much to worry about Thursday against Mercyhurst. The size of the squads is dramatically different so all Titusville had to do was put swimmers in the water and they were going to win the meet.
That said, no other sport is like swimming (insert an appeal from track and cross country) in that every swimmer gets cheered on to do their personal best. No one gets gets more cheers, not even a great quarterback, than a lane five or six swimmer in high school sports.
No one.
Those extra little points are important sometimes for the team, but more,,, way more... it is important that the individual athlete pushes themself to be the best they can be. And the team seems to really support this mentality in swimming.

It wasn't close to being a team match, but the vibe around the pool was "Lets give it our best." There were several heats where Mercyhurst didn't even have a swimmer, but Titusville had three lanes and the cheering was just as loud from the home team.
The results from tonight's lopsided meet here.
A Titusville coach, Seth Come, emailed Eight & 322 their thoughts tonight. "Good meet tonight. Mercyhurst is a smaller team so we got a chance to swim girls in off events and spread the wealth to some individual that usually only swims in relays. Loved what I saw from our relays tonight. That was our focus from the pre-meet meeting and the girls, I thought, stepped up to the challenge.
The team had new district qualifiers: Anna Mehlenbacher in the 200 Freestyle and Sophia Sampson in the 100 Butterfly,
Coach shoutouts: Ari Fink digging down deep in her 100 free securing a second place. Emma Slocum for hitting some fantastic times in both 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Bella Ongley for finding her rhythm in the 100 butterfly.
Here are the complete scores from the Mercyhurst meet.
